By the color scheme, I'm surprised no one came close to guessing this one.
My original picture looked like this:
I had to frog this because the pattern I created wasn't all that great.
For this project, I created my own pattern with the help of a pattern maker, wxkpg. It's a program where you upload an image, and it spits out a pattern for you based on the pixels in the image. The problem with this program is that you HAVE to use a REALLY basic image with clean lines, otherwise you end up with some *interesting* patterns. For example: I uploaded a simple black and white image to the program. When it gave me the pattern, it gave me the following color chart:
I don't know about you, but I am not interested in knitting with 31 different colors. So I tried to force the program to ONLY use 2 colors. As I started knitting, I realized there were some misplaced pixels that were perhaps a different shade of black, and the program designated them as white.
Back to the drawing board. This time, I used a little more image manipulation to shrink the image down to a good size for a knitting project (because 200 pixels wide = 200 stitches... your gauge will determine the width of the project), and then told it to only use two colors -- which came out much cleaner.
What image was I using?
In honor of my favorite team EVER making it to the NHL playoffs for 20 straight years, I wanted to pay my respects and dedicate a month of my time creating a knitted banner.
In order to do this, I had to get over my recent failure of fair isle knitting -- as this project would require it. This time, I wrapped EVERY. SINGLE. STITCH. It was tedious, and I think I STILL had my tension TOO tight. I'm hoping some SERIOUS blocking time will hide my "mistakes", because right now it's very oddly shaped.
There is the back where you can see every wrapped stitch. Snoopy thought that the Caron One Pound skeins made quite a nice pillow to rest on....
Eventually I would like to frame this and add it to the Red Wings shrine I have developed. So far this shrine has a Brendan Shannahan "400" puck, and a picture of the Comerica Park Tiger wearing a Wing's Jersey, courtesy of Brendan's Aunt Robin :)
