Learning I'm not as visual as I thought...

Next up to bat: a knitted household object that could actually be useful.  With spring on the way (and the cost of the yarn), a blanket still didn't make sense to make... so what do do?

I found a "one skein" shoe rug on ravelry that fit the bill.  With an interesting pattern and new stitches to learn, it would make a fine addition to our home.  The only question left: what color to make it?

Our apartment is a hodge podge of colors and styles.  Since we moved to our current apartment we have been trying to condense everything into a cohesive style, but that is very challenging, especially when deciding on colors.  After much deliberation and staring at yarn in Michael's, my husband and I finally went with safe "chocolate brown", which is the same color as our curtains in our living room, and the color of the bathroom rugs -- so it works well.

The original pattern was given just as a chart... which I discovered that I can't follow to save my life.  I must have started this project over five or six times before writing out the different stitches in an "easy-for-me-to-follow" format.  After writing it out, I finished the rug in a couple of days!

It's not all that large of a piece, but it does help keep some of the debris off the carpet when we come inside from our patio.  Snoopy also loves it as a resting place to watch birdies (and the neighbor dogs).

  1. I'm still so impressed with how quickly you picked up knitting. It looks great... and thanks for a glimpse of how hard decorating is really going to be when i move out of the parents house. haha
