My husband and my friend, Spacey, introduced me to a horrible movie: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. They seem to be obsessed with this film.. for reason I can not understand what-so-ever.
In case you have been fortunate enough to have never seen the movie, the main "crew" has the same basic uniform
-A speedo
-A glock (unless you're an intern, then you have to share)
-And a red knit cap.
So, naturally I went looking for a pattern for the "infamous" red knit hat. My first attempt didn't turn out the way I would have hoped. The pattern I used said if you wanted to make it look like the one in the film, then to remove the plain "knit" rounds after the decreases. I believe I missed something in there, because the hat I ended up with did NOT resemble the one from the movie.
So it was back to the ravelry patterns to find something better. Which I did. This new hat was 100% "1x1" ribbing, and it had a new stitch for me to learn - kitchener.
As an early birthday present, I gave it to Spacey for him to take on his SCUBA trip down to Florida. We wanted evidence of it being on a boat, but unfortunately he didn't have a camera with him. Maybe next time?
And we found a use for the "first attempt"... Spacey's cat, Kali, can join in on the fun!
Happy Birthday, Space man!
