When I went on my shopping excursion to Yarn Barn back in December, I found a SUPER soft alpaca mix yarn. I didn't really understand a whole lot about weights, yardage, and needle size when I bought it... so I only bought one of the 50g balls.
I started trying to make just a garter stitch scarf right after I finished the Purple Scarf, I threw this on my US10 needles, and away I went. It made a scarf that was 1.5' long... not nearly long enough.
After this sitting on stitch holders for a while, I finally frogged it and started over. I found a "lacy" pattern from Knitting Daily, and used my US17 needles, and ended up with a slightly longer scarf. It's a good "fashion" scarf length.
I also had to learn how to do some basic crochet to work on the border. It wasn't as "scary" as I thought, and I really like the finished look!
