Socks.
They seem like the classic thing to own if you or someone very close to you knits. And why shouldn't you? Hand knit socks are luxurious and they make crazy color yarns just for socks.
I bought a book about what to do with skeins of sock yarn. I bought some bamboo sock yarn (among other skeins of sock yarn). I decided I needed a pair of socks.
I found a pattern in the book called "Bridal Socks". It's a very simple lacy pattern that looked pretty easy. I did have to learn how to do a stretchy cast on (they are top-down socks), but it seemed to have paid off. The feel of the bamboo yarn with my Addi double pointed needles was just a dream to work with! I had a lot of fun making this!
Well, until I got to the second sock.
Wait, you mean I have to do that all EXACTLY the same, AGAIN!? UUUUGH.
This is a very real problem in the knitting community known as second sock syndrome. Many knitters are simply too A.D.D. to repeat the exact same project (such as the second sock).
So I begrudgingly made the second sock. And, it turned out well!
As with any hand knit item, you must take special care of them while cleaning. So, can you guess how many times I've worn these socks? Once. I spent all that time to make them only to wear them once. They were ridiculously comfy to wear (although, I do need to repair the toe in one of them), but it was such a pain to wash them the first time, I simply didn't want that kind of up keep for socks.
